The Ruins

This was done as a concept for The Ruins. I loved the book and was really stocked to get a shot at doing the movie poster for it. Rather than showing vines engulfing a person (like what they went with), I wanted to make a more serene image. I wanted to focus on the vine getting inside these people – both physically and mentally. To me, having the girl in this picture quietly accept her fate, is creepier than if she were clawing at it.

For this picture, I combined photos of the flower and the girl from our photo shoot. I used the meat from the Saw 3 posters I did where the big flower is coming out. I painted (in Photoshop) the vines, shadows, and the somewhat pathetically drawn leaf in the middle of her back. The blurry leaves at the bottom are from a photo.
